Dale E. Lape, 88, of Danville, Illinois and formerly of Covington, Indiana passed away on June 13, 2011 at The Waters of Covington. Dale was born on August 21, 1922 son of Jerome and Thelma (Glover) Lape. Survivors include: brother Jake (Pat) Lape, daughter Deborah (Michael) Westjohn, nephews Alan Lape and David Lape; great nephew Duncan Lape; step son Mike Blackwell; cousin Louise (Joe) Elliot; and special friends Vickie Simons, Judy Martin, Bill Conard, Byron Berger, Tom McGurk Jr. and the Wright family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth and cousin Lowell and Maxine Galloway. Dale graduated from Covington High School and then served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. New York. From a very young age he farmed on his parents farm near Foster, Indiana. After returning from the war, Dale continued to farm until he retired in 1996. Even after retiring, Dale continued to keep involved with farming, helping his family with their farm. He enjoyed U of I Basketball and taking trips to Vegas. Above all, he loved the satisfaction he received from farming and the many friendships he made over the years. Dale loved to go to the Beef House, where you could find him almost every day. For Dale it was more than just a restaurant; it was a place to meet his many friends and to make new ones. He was so grateful for his family, friends, and all the Lord gave him throughout his life. His love, generosity, and sense of humor will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Dales Life will be held at 11:30 am, Indiana time on Thursday June 16, 2011 at Sunsets Covington Chapel, 420 E. 3rd Street, Covington, IN 47932. Visitation will be held from 9-11:30 am, Indiana time Thursday morning at the funeral home. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville.
