CHAMPAIGN- Dale E. Neaville, 78, of Champaign died on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana, IL, following a six-year struggle with Alzheimers Disease. The family would like to convey their gratitude to their staff as well as to the staff of Amber Glen for their loving care. Dale was a kind husband, father and grandfather. He was born on October 4, 1935 in St. Paul, Kansas to Carrie and Ray Neaville. They preceded him in death, along with his first wife of 39 years, Janet Ann Haney Neaville. He received a BS degree at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, and a Masters degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Throughout his life, Dale played in many sports, and he taught and coached in many high schools throughout Kansas and Missouri. Later, Dale served with the US Army, where he was stationed in Germany near the Berlin Wall. For 30 years, Dale worked as a faculty member in two college counseling centers in both Kansas and Illinois. During most of his career, he taught psychology at Parkland College in Champaign, IL. Dale leaves behind his loving wife of seventeen years, Susan Neaville of Champaign, IL.; one son, Lance Ross (Joni) Neaville of Morton, IL.; one daughter, Shauna Rae Gough of Mahomet, IL.; one sister, Doramae OKelley of Dayton, OH; two stepsons, John (Anna) Donahoe of Champaign, IL. and Jeffrey (Michelle) Donahoe of Sycamore, IL,; grandchildren, Ross and Morganne Neaville, and Emma Wallar; Connor and Hannah Gough; and stepgrandchildren, Frances, Sarah, Drew, Will and Joe Donahoe. Following his marriage to Susan, they moved to St. Augustine, FL., where they enjoyed walking and living by the beach. Dale and Susan also enjoyed traveling and volunteering together. Dale enjoyed playing golf as a member of the South Hampton Golf Club, where he and Susan lived for four years. After moving back to Champaign to be near their families, Dale was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Downtown Champaign. Cremation rights have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St., Champaign, IL. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at First United Methodist Church of Champaign, 210 W. Church St., on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Corum officiating. A family burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Champaign. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Youth Fund, Parkland College or the Alzheimers Association for Alzheimers research in honor of Dale.
