Curtis "Wayne" Dawes, 71, of Catlin, passed away at 10:52pm, Friday, September 11, 2020, at his home. He was born on February 13, 1949, in Danville, IL, the son of Curtis Henry and Blanche {Limp} Dawes. He was united in marriage to Theresa "Terri" Rodman on July 9, 2001. She will miss him dearly. Wayne is survived by: his daughters, Angela (Michael) Heller of Butte, MT, Amber (Brian) Smith of Danville, Dena (Scott) Smith of St. Charles, IL, & Tonya Carson of Danville; his sisters, Sandra Heffern & Linda Dawes; his grandchildren, Troy Dawes, Jared Edwards, Garrett Edwards, Branden (Daylin) Smith, Connor Smith, Tanner (Christa) Sawka, Katelynn Sawka, Allie Sawka, & Blake Carson; his great grandchildren, River, Bexley, Tilden, Patrick, Melita, Ava, Juliet, Madelynn, Jr., his several special nieces & nephews; special friends who helped them throughout his health issues, Brian & Diane Moews, Dave & Brooke Trimmell and their sons, Zane Steve & Jana Berry; & Brad & Grace Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters, Sharon Moews & Luetta Dawes. Wayne worked at Hysters for 33 years. He also served as a part-time police officer in the town of Oakwood. He loved riding his Harley and enjoyed his road trip to Montana. He belonged to the Corvette Club and earlier in his life he loved to drag race. He enjoyed flying and had obtained his pilots license. He was a big fan of Kentucky Wildcats basketball. Wayne was known by many to be very proud of his Country and was a true Patriot. He was a lucky recipient of a heart transplant. He treasured his fur babies, Shiloh & Harley. Wayne loved dancing with Terri whenever he could and cherished his family and spending time with them. He will be missed by many, but his legacy will live on through the memories. A celebration of Waynes life will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Visitation will be held 11:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. It is kindly requested that face masks be worn, and social distancing is practiced by those in attendance of the visitation and or service. Memorial donations may be given in his name to the Humane Society, Vermilion County Animal Shelter, or Wounded Warrior Project.
