Corene Hayes, 86, of Danville, passed away at 1:58 a.m. Sunday, December 4th, 2011 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center. Corene was born on March 21st, 1925, in Upton, Kentucky, the daughter of James A. and Effie M. (Riggs) Wood. She married Edward Hayes on October 7th, 1939 in Greenwood, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 16th, 1982. She is survived by one son- Larry (Shirley) Hayes of Tilton; two daughters- Jean (Bill) McCrone of Westville and Debbie (Bill) Holstine of Danville; five grandchildren- Brian (Donna) Elliott of Danville, Kelli (Jason) Shepherd of Danville, Erin (Jim) Hosken of Bloomington, Illinois, Michael Holstine of Danville, and Caleb Holstine of Danville; five great-grandchildren- Robert and Tiffanie Elliott, Baylee and Tinlee Shepherd, and Brady Hosken; one sister- Pearl Bell of Upton, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and her pet bird- Joey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Charles Hayes, brother-Alvin Wood, sister- Opal Logsdon and her twin sister that passed away at birth- Lorene Wood. Corene worked for Peterson-Puritan/CCL for 37 years, until she retired in 1999. She enjoyed reading, watching T.V. and spending time with her family. A Celebration of the life of Corene Hayes will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8th, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7th, 2011 at the funeral home.
