Cora May (Marshall) Kirts

Cora May “Corky” Kirts, 86, of Thomasboro went to be with the Lord on Monday morning (March 20, 2023) at Country Health Care & Rehab, Gifford.

She was born July 9, 1936, in Danville, a daughter of Carl and Elsie (Mitchell) Marshall.  She married Robert Kirts on June 25, 1960, in Rankin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1999.

She is survived by two children, Carla (Dave) Maier of Thomasboro and Robert (Julie) Kirts of Hawaii; five grandchildren, Kyle Maier, Kendal (Brad) Shreves, Chad (Sarah) Raaymakers, Adrian Kirts and Matthew Kirts; and three great-grandchildren, with one expected in August.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Eric.

Corky worked at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana for 45 years. She made a career working in many cancer programs and registries. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Thomasboro.

She knitted hundreds of prayer shawls for cancer patients and quilted with the women at Peace Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul. The Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Champaign. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at Lux Memorial Chapel.
