Constance Connie Jean MacDonald left to be with her daughter, Kim Zercher Hastings, in heaven, after fighting a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer, she left her earthly body on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at her residence in Savoy. Connie was born February 24, 1934 in Danville, IL the daughter of Stephen Fuzzy and June (Juvinall) Griffith. Siblings include Sharon (Ron) Graham of Lakewood, CO and Sandy (Nourie) Shupe of California. Connie was a 51 graduate of Danville High School and began her working career at Bell Telephone Company. She also spent 16 years with Hyster as a secretary and administrative assistant. Most recently, she managed a Denver, Colorado high-rise condominium association. Connie was a Charter Member and Past President of the Piankeshaw Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. She was also a past member of the Danville Tennis Club and as a teenager; she was a member of Nu Phi Mu Sorority. She enjoyed tennis, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as traveling to historical places. In addition, she was a avid fan of the University of Illinois basketball team, she loved doing crossword puzzles and reading biographies to her husband while they traveled throughout the country. Connie Jean married Bill Zercher in 1956 and they had four children: Kim Zercher Hastings, (deceased), Scott (Keri) Zercher of Danville, IL, Bradley (Deanna) Zercher of Mackinaw, IL, and Jeffrey (Suzanne) Zercher of Urbana, IL. In 1980 she married Alexander MacDonald (he survives), and was mother to Alexander M. MacDonald IV of Manchester, MO and Deborah Ann (Tim) Cooney of Baldwin, MO; grandchildren: Chase Hasting of IN, Nathan, Stefan, Kayley and Nickolas Zercher all of Danville, IL, Hannah Nicole Zercher of Urbana, IL and Edward and Faith Cooney of Baldwin, MO; great-granddaughter Jocelyn Vish of Indianapolis, IN; aunts: Joy (Rusty) Owens of Colorado Springs, CO, Donabelle McBee of Georgetown, IL, and Margie Rucker of Milwaukee, WI; plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special friends include Denise Zercher of Danville and Rocky Saurini of Buffalo Creek, CO, and her Guardian Angels, Suzanne Elliott Zercher and her sister, Sharon Graham, who was Connies constant companion during the final stage of her illness. She was preceded in death by her mother, June Juvinall Nourie (1967), father, Stephan Fuzzy Griffith (1999), daughter Kim Zercher Hastings (2005), grandson, Seth Hastings (1995) and grandson Taylor Zercher in (1996). A Celebration of Connies Life will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Spring Hill Cemeterys Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Mark Elliott officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 1 pm Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Following the ceremony family and friends are invited to a reception to be held at Sunsets Executive Plaza, 3550 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contribution to be made to the Carle Inpatient Cancer Center, C/O Carle Foundation Development, 611 W. Park St. Urbana, IL 61801.
