Conrad E. Smith

Newport, Ind. -- Conrad E. Smith, 89, of Newport, passed away at 5:10 p.m. EDT Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born July 29, 1922 in Perrysville, Indiana, the son of the late Raymond G. and Maude Cook Smith. he married Zelma P. Miller on June 19, 1949 in Vermilion County, Illinois. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Rusty Lane Smith of Newport, Indiana; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one brother, Maurice C.(Jean)Smith of Goleta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by one son, Sandy Zane Smith. Conrad last worked for the F.B.I. as a Electronic Technician in San Diego, California, retiring in October of 1974. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving with the United States Navy from September 16, 1940 until his Honorable Discharge in November 1946. He was a former member of the Perrysville United Methodist Church. Conrad was a member of the Perrysville American Legion Post #350. He was a 1940 graduate of Perrysville High School and a graduate of Indiana State University with a degree in Biological Science. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EST Monday, November 7, 2011 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Leon Korb; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana with military rites by the Perrysville American Legion Post #350; Visitation: Noon EST Monday, November 7, 2011 until time of services at the funeral home.
