Clifford Alan Sawyer was reunited with the love of his life Judy, on July 28, 2024 at Goldwater Care-Danville. He was 88 years old. He was born on January 15, 1936 in Sidell, IL to the late Willis O. and Lula Mae(Tatman) Sawyer. He was the youngest of four siblings. Cliff graduated from Georgetown High School in 1954 and was a constant at the Georgetown RidgeFarm Alumni Banquets. Cliff kept his classmates close, often planning trips and various get-togethers. He was the glue that held them all together. Clifford joined the US Army Reserves, serving 6 years, Honorably Discharged in 1963. Clifford married the love of his life Judith Ann Drotos in October of 1959, they spent sixty-four busy years together before her passing in December 2023. Surviving Clifford are his children, Lori Starwalt of Georgetown and Eric (Debbie)Sawyer also of Georgetown. His grandchildren Tyler Starwalt (Colby Landis) of Danville and Alyssa (Dillon)Neff of Cayuga, IN, a great-granddaughter Riley LouAnn, who was the apple of his eye. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, and his three older siblings and their spouses. Raymond and Wilda Sawyer, formerly of Oakwood, Melba Louise and Raymond Kilian, formerly of Broadlands, and Donald Gene and Roberta Charlene Sawyer, formerly of Catlin. Also preceding him are two nephews Monte Sawyer and Kevin Sawyer and niece Sandra Kilian. Cliff was a busy man all his adult life. He worked at General Refractory for six and a half years until its closing and Bohn Aluminum/Heatcraft for thirty-six years of which twenty-seven were as supervisor of the sheet metal department. He retired in 1998. He was a former member of the Danville Moose Lodge, Georgetown Sportsmans Club, Georgetown Youth Football Organization, founding member and President 4 years, Georgetown Fair Board Director(3 years), current member of the Georgetown American Legion Post 203, Georgetown Lions Club(past president)and a very active member of the Georgetown Historical House. Clifford bowled in a league for over thirty-five years and was their treasurer for many seasons. He played fast pitch softball in the Danville Industrial League for both General Refractory and Bohn for eleven years. He loved most all sports, especially Illinois football, basketball and volleyball, he and Judy cheered the Illini on in person until health issues made it difficult. Clifford was a die hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. March was his favorite month because it came with basketball games for days! Clifford loved to vacation in Florida in the winter months and could be found on the beach at Siesta Key with Judy soaking up the sun. They both loved to travel, and he made it to forty-nine of the fifty states. Bus trips with groups were their favorite because someone else was in charge of the driving. A visitation will be held for Clifford on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes Houghton-Leasure Chapel, located at 200 East West Street in Georgetown. Funeral service celebrating Clifford's life will be Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10 am, Pastor James Blue will be officiating. He will be placed to rest at the Georgetown Cemetery with military rites following the service. Memorial donations in his honor may be made to the Georgetown American Legion Post 203 or the Georgetown Historical House.
