Claude B. Emerson Jr., 75, of Lighthouse Point, Florida, formerly of Danville, passed away at 2:27 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at North Broward Medical Center in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Claude was born on November 19, 1934 in Florence, Alabama, the son of Claude B. and Odale Emerson Sr. He married Carolyn Downs Herron in 1963 in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by two sons- William (Vickie) Herron and Rick (Cathy) Herron both of Danville; one brother- Bill (Faye) Emerson of Athens Alabama; one sister- Linda (James) Jackson of Athens, Alabama; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother- Wayne Emerson. Claude graduated from high school in Athens, Alabama. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. After moving to Danville, Claude worked for General Motors, for 25 years. After retiring from GM, he moved to Florida. Claude was previously a member of East Park Church of Christ in Danville. While living in Florida he was a member of Sixth Street Church of Christ. Claude was also a member of the Lions Club in Danville and UAW Local #579. He enjoyed music and was very involved in his church. A Celebration of the life of Claude B. Emerson Jr. will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Pastor Dennis Floyd officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park.
