Clark C. Grupe, age 92, passed away surrounded by his family at IU Health Hospital in Tipton, IN on Wednesday March 07, 2018. He was born on December 23rd, 1925 in Effingham, IL to Charles and Belva Grupe. Clark grew up and attended school in the Effingham, IL area. From age 15 to 17, he worked on the railroad. Shortly thereafter, he joined the United States Navy as a Seabee and served honorably during World War II. He married Lois Keeler on February 2, 1946, and they moved to the Ridgefarm, IL area, where he farmed for many years. Additionally, he worked for 24 years at General Motors in Danville, IL., and retired in 1987. After retiring from GM, he worked as a security guard at Steel Parts in Tipton, IN, until his early 80's. He was a member United Auto Workers (UAW) 579, and the St. Joseph American Legion, Post 634. Clark enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, playing euchre and attending auction sales. His true passion in life was his family, housing multiple sleepovers with his grandchildren, attending all types of life events of his grand-children and great-grandchildren. He was fortunate to meet his great-great grandchild, Olivia. He might not have been "Clark" Kent, but he was the superhero in our family and he will be dearly missed. Clark is survived by his two sons, Clark "Dennis" (Carla) Grupe and Keith (Chris) Grupe; a daughter, Linda (Lee) McGehee; a step-daughter, Sybil (Luis) Vera; a brother, Burl Grupe; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and his significant other, Jane Dellinger. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, along with his wife, Lois Grupe; four brothers, Lee, Milan, Jim, and Elwin Grupe; a sister, Lois Call; one daughter, Denise Carlson; and a great-great granddaughter, Olivia Miller. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home located at 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL. Pastor Kevin Cox will officiate the service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 3 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at IU Health Hospital and Merry Manor in Tipton, IN for their attentiveness and loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Clark's name at www.alz.org.
