Oakwood- Clarence R. Hicks, 71, of Oakwood passed away at 2:42 AM on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL. He was born on May 29, 1941 in Mahomet to Harley and Ruth Spencer Hicks. He first married Judy Zsarnay in 1967, who preceded him in death in 1979. He later married Yvonne S. Tyler on September 22, 1984 in Reddick, IL. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2011. He is survived by a son, Russell (Stacey) Hicks of Clinton, IL; three brothers, Keith (Linda) Hicks of Arizona, Harley (Jayne) Hicks, Jr. of Decatur, and Lyle (Nyla) Hicks of Danville; two sisters, Olive Alderson of Danville and Edith Johnson of Rankin; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Sarah Hicks; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant son, Randy Hicks. Clarence was proud to have served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. During this time, he volunteered for two tours of duty and continued on in the Marine Corp Reserves. He was a member of the VFW Gung Ho Post #6750 in Rantoul where he served as Commander from 1994-1996. Clarence worked at Quaker Oats in Danville until his retirement after 25 years and enjoyed traveling. A service to celebrate the life of Clarence Hicks will be held at 11 AM on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery where military honors will be held. Reverend Kim Dancey will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset's Oakwood Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
