Clair Eugene Astell

Catlin Clair Eugene Astell, 89, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL. He was born on August 25, 1933 in West Lebanon, IN to Oliver and Kathryn (Etnire) Astell. Clair married Mildred M. Landsdown on April 18, 1954 at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Danville, IL.

Clair is survived by his wife; children Pam (Tom) Taylor and David (Teresa) Astell; grandchildren Luke (Jess) Taylor, Katie (Brandon) Davis, Evanne Astell, Elijah (Morgan) Astell, and Ellie (Josh) Stamm; great-grandchildren Storey Taylor, Hayven Taylor, Harloe Taylor, and Piper Stamm; brother Rich Astell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings David, John, and Carolyn.

After his retirement from Flexel, Clair worked as the groundskeeper at Catlin schools. He was a meticulous worker and took great pride in his job. He enjoyed mowing, yardwork, and cooking. Clair was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini. He was a member of Danville First Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held from 9am-11am on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois, 61834. Service will follow at 11am at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made in Clairs name to the Alzheimers Association or Salt Fork School District. Please join his family in sharing memories on his tribute wall at sunsetfuneralhome.com.
