Cindy Hsiu Simon

Cindy Hsiu Simon, 82, of Rantoul died Sunday (Feb. 18, 2024) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

She was born on Nov. 21, 1941. She married Douglas T. Simon on April 8, 1974, in Taichung, Taiwan.

He survives, along with three daughters, Opal Perlow (Marty), Li Ping Tien (Nelson Cardenas) and Christine Ullom (Matt); one son, Steven Simon (Anna); and 10 grandchildren, who were the loves of her life.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Denise.

Cindy was born in Taiwan and met her husband while he was stationed at Ching Chuan Kang Air Base. She moved to the United States in 1976, where they lived in Valdosta, Ga. Their journey took them to Fayetteville, N.C., and then to their final destination of Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. She worked at the Solo Cup Company until her retirement. Cindy loved quilting, crocheting, baking and cooking. She took pride in the achievements of her family and was known for her stubborn nature, love of Blackjack and playing Mahjong all night long.

A memorial service/celebration of life will be at noon Saturday at Lux Chapel Memorial, 1551 E. Grove Ave., Rantoul, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Champaign. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
