Chuck "Charlie" Gehrt

Chuck “Charlie” Gehrt, 84, of Gifford passed away at his home, surrounded by his girls, on the evening of Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

He was born March 28, 1940, in Champaign, a son of Opal (Bell) Gehrt. He married Donna Cornell on Feb. 28, 1960, in Gifford. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2022.

He is survived by three daughters, Barbara Horn of Champaign, Cindy (Wesley) Gable of Salem, Wisc., and Diane (Michael) Parkerson of Gifford; a brother, Paul (Gloria) Gehrt of Thomasboro; a sister, Jean Ann Cornell of Champaign; eight grandchildren, Brad (Victoria) Miller, Chris Miller, Joey (Jordan) Horn, Alissa Horn, Travis (Justine) Gable, Todd (Amanda) Gable, Tyler (Jess) Parkerson and Danielle (Kris) Fiedler; and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.

Charlie retired from Kraft Foods after 38 years. He also owned and operated Gehrt Construction for many years. He loved golf and a good game of poker. Gifford will miss seeing him ride around town with his furry friend Brownie.

He will be buried beside his wife in Partlow Cemetery, Armstrong in a private family service.
