Christopher D. Decker, 65, of Mahomet, passed away on April 1, 2025. Chris was born on June 27, 1959, in Gibson City, the son of Terry Warren and Sharon May (Finis) Decker.

For many years, Chris proudly served as a police officer in Gibson City, where he became a trusted figure in the local community. His commitment to public service was evident as he later transitioned into maintenance, management, and security roles for Dr. Youngerman's numerous downtown locations in Champaign. His work not only demonstrated his dedication but also highlighted his versatility and reliability.

Known for his congeniality, Chris's warm personality and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on those he met. He was also known for his willingness to lend a helping hand and for his ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued.

He is survived by his beloved family members, including his mother, Sharon Koch of Mahomet, brother, Brian Decker of Watseka; his stepbrother, David Koch of Ohio; and stepsisters Carol Houser of Portland, OR, and Kris Fitzpatrick of Champaign.

A Community Celebration of Life for Christopher will take place on April 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Venue CU, located at 51 E Main St, Champaign, IL, followed by a toast to Chris at Pour Bros, located at 40 E. University Ave., Champaign, IL.

Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s Champaign Chapel 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL 61820 has been entrusted with handling arrangements.
