Danville - "Chip" Dale Brant Lucas, Jr., 72, passed away at 6:20 AM on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL. "Chip" was born on October 10, 1944 in Danville, IL the son of Dale B. and Mary E (Van Dyke) Lucas, Sr. "Chip" is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Troy) Tranchant of Danville, IL, two grandchildren, Tanner Tranchant and Tessa Tranchant both of Danville, IL, a special cousin, Regina Lucas Dooley as well as special friends, Jim and Sue Brown, Torch Prentice, David Woods, Marsha Fisher and Paula Magruder. He is preceded in death by his parents. "Chip" was a former member of St Paul's Catholic Church and was a graduate of Bismarck High School. "Chip" served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 - 1966 on the USS Holder and the USS Mullinnix, during which time he attained the rate of Yeoman. Over his lifetime, "Chip" was an Investigator with the D.C. Metro Police Department, worked at Grand Harbor, was the owner and operator of Dale's Place in Danville, IL and was a retired motor yacht Captain. He was a member of the Vermilion County Rescue and Search Dive Team, Iron Butt Association, member and Past Commodore of the Danville Boat Club, an American Legion Post 210 member for over 37 years and a 40/8 member for over 36 years. "Chip" had many passions throughout his lifetime. As the Captain of a yacht he navigated the inland waterways of the United States as well as the Gulf and Caribbean seas. Traveling, boating, yachting, motorcycles and fast cars were a large part of his life. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR fan, raced mini sprint cars, enjoyed scuba diving, riding his motorcycle, and cruising around in his T-bucket. Celebration of Life Service Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday May 20, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post 210. Chaplain Lorenzo Bolden will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Friday May 19, 2017 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
