Chester Douglas Roach, known to family and friends as Doug, was a devoted husband, proud Army veteran, and founder of Roach Masonry in Urbana, Illinois. Doug was born March 16th, 1943 in Cedar Creek Township, MO to Chester and Dimple Roach. Doug served his country with honor in the U.S. Army beginning in 1960 until 1964, including time in Korea, where his leadership and work ethic earned him multiple commendations. After returning home, Doug poured that same dedication into building Roach Masonry into a fixture of the Champaign-Urbana community, leaving his mark on numerous projects throughout the University of Illinois and beyond. But above all his accomplishments, Doug’s heart belonged to his beloved wife, Linda. She was the love of his life, and together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and the great outdoors. Some of their most cherished memories were made at the lake—boating, camping, and enjoying time with dear friends. The summer weekends were always reserved for getting away together and soaking in the peace of the water and each other’s company. Doug is preceded in death by Linda, and it brings comfort to know they are reunited once again. He is survived by his three children: Chester Douglas Roach Jr., David Shawn Rogers, and Ashley Roach. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the community he helped build, and the lifelong love story he shared with Linda.
A private burial of cremated remains for Chester and his late wife Linda will be held at Danville National Cemetery.
