Chester Chet Gill, 72, of Westville, passed away at 7:58 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Chet was born on October 4, 1937 in Westville, Illinois, the son of Plummer William and Bertha Ella (Bragg). He married Laverne Bloomfield on May 5, 1957 in Hoopeston. She survives. He is also survived by four sons- Jeff (Sondra) Gill of Grayville, Illinois, Michael (Traci) Gill of Danville, Brian Gill of Grayville, Illinois and Troy Gill of Grayville, Illinois; one daughter- Janet (Jon Cookus) Gill of Danville; one brother- Dean (Shirley) Gill of Pittsfield, Illinois; four sisters- Carolyn Sue (Howard) Anderson of Catlin, Charlene Crawford of Santa Anna, California, Christine (Charles) Hughes of Vista, California and Connie Gill of Danville; four grandchildren- Stacey Dittmar, Jennifer Gill, Jeramy Gill and Shannon Gill; five great-grandchildren- Christian Reavill, Carter Dittmar, Caleb Trosper, Austin Camareno and Tidus Cox; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother- Libby Gill. Chet attended Westville High School. He worked at Amax Coal in Princeton, Indiana for several years and later moved to Kentucky, where he worked for Triangle Industries, until retirement. After retiring in 1999, he moved back to Danville. Chet was currently working at Danville Paper and Supply Company. He attended Cedar Grove Church of the Nazarene. Chet loved to work in his yard and in his garden. He also enjoyed finding broken treasures and repairing them and walking his dogs-Corky and Buddy. In his younger years he enjoyed mushroom hunting and blackberry picking. Chet loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed and always loved. A Celebration of the life of Chester Chet Gill will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Pastor Bryan Sampson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Newtown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Cedar Grove Church of the Nazarene.
