Danville – Cheryl Kay Winland, 70, of Danville, IL passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was born September 2, 1955 in Danville to David Dean and Norma Jean (Wakeland) Hesler.
She is survived by three children, Adam (Valerie) Winland of Cayuga, IN, Erin (Michael) Langevin of Westfield, IN, and Allie (Calvin) Frey of Nashville, TN; eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Christopher, Rose, Mikaila, Avery, Ethan, Alex, and Elyse; a brother, Brad Hesler and a sister, Rita Dalbey; and five nieces and nephews, Jake, Jami, Rachel, Jarred, and Mackenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Greg Hesler.
Cheryl graduated from Georgetown High School in 1973, where she was proud to be both a cheerleader and a majorette. She had a passion for traveling and cherished time spent with friends, always bringing laughter and warmth to every gathering. She adored her special dog, Lucy, who was a constant companion, and held fond memories of her Sophie. Yet, nothing compared to the joy she found in her family. Affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren, she poured her heart into every moment with them—whether celebrating milestones, traveling, or simply offering one of her comforting hugs and great home cooked meals. Cheryl considered her greatest accomplishment the privilege of staying home to raise her children, and later, the blessing of being an ever-present, devoted grandmother. Her love, her care, and her kind spirit created a legacy of family bonds that will carry on for generations.
A service to celebrate the life of Cheryl Winland will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL, 61834. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset in Danville.
