Danville - Charles Wayne Cox, 87, of Danville, passed away on May 17, 2014. He was born February 28, 1927 in Indiana. He is survived by his daughter Cathy (John) Oliver of Danville, his son William (Randi) Cox of Texas, his granddaughter, Kelly (Daniel) Messmore of East Peoria, his grandson John Oliver of Georgetown, his brothers, Ralph Cox and Calvin Cox, his sister, Jean Conner, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fern Cox; his sister June, and his parents. Charlie “Wayne” was a veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Following his service to the country, he owned and operated Coxs Barber Shop in Danville, IL for over 50 years. During his life, he served as an usher and was a regularly attending member of the 2nd Church of Christ in Danville, IL. He was a staunch Republican, a die-hard White Sox fan, and played in the church softball league until he was 80 years of age. He was also an eclectic collector and enjoyed working outdoors. A celebration of Waynes life will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Pastor Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery in Ambia, IN, with full military rites.
