Charles Raymond Simmonds

Westville - The loving heart of Charles Raymond Simmonds stopped beating at 6:15 am, Sunday, April 7, 2013 as the sun came up. He was home with his wife, Marla and daughter, Julie sitting next to him holding his hands. Charles Raymond (Chuck) was born August 3, 1948, in Danville, IL to the late Charles Wayne and Celestine Adele (Delattre) Simmonds. Charles was united in loving marriage to Marla Rose (Binkley) Hanner at Kennekuk Chapel on June 1, 1990. He is survived by his adored daughters, Julie (Billy) Haynes, Amy Simmonds, Allison (Neil) Rollins, Bethany Hanner; one son, Gregory "Micah" (Jessica) Hanner and 12 grandchildren, Taylor, Conner, Alexandrea, Jeremy, Jordan (Cecilia), Abigail, Brandon, Jaxon, David, Ainsley, Deakon and Savanah. Charles had very special relationships with his grandchildren. His love for them will be everlasting in their hearts. Charles Raymond will be very sadly missed by 7 brothers and sisters, Marcia Thomas, Betty (Terry) Manning, Richard (Diana) Simmonds, Vickie (Carl) Johnson, Thomas Simmonds, Debbie Cheeseman and Jeff Simmonds. He will also be missed by several nieces and nephews. Charles Raymond grew up in Olivet, IL and relocated to Westville as an adult. He retired from General Motors as a Journeyman Millwright after 29 years of service. Always an avid car enthusiast, he could tell you what happened in any year by remembering what car he had at that time, especially loyal to General Motors products. He enjoyed traveling with Marla for weekend trips to anywhere', many trips to Florida and visiting his grown daughters and families in New Mexico and Arizona. Charles Raymond loved being with his family and was very supportive of any and all endeavors one may attempt. He was willing to help his brothers and sisters whenever he was asked. He was a friend to all and will be missed by many dear friends. He enjoyed his early breakfasts wit h the "breakfast group." A Celebration of Charles Raymond's life will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Sunset-Urbas Chapel in Westville with Pastor Ron Drage officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Charles Raymond's name to Ridge Farm Friends, Children and Youth Program.
