Charles R. Shapuras

Charles Ray Shapuras, age 81 of Westville, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015, at 6:50 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born July 25, 1934, in Westville, the son of William and Ruby (Williams) Shapuras. Chuck married Carolyn Giacone on August 27, 1960. He later married Deb Gremore on April 8, 2005. She survives and will miss him always. Also surviving are his son, Jeff (Maureen McNaney) Shapuras of Chicago; daughter, Susan (Brian) Davis of Mahomet; granddaughter, Aminamaree Davis; brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Shapuras of Terre Haute; and many other loving friends and family members. Chuck was a computer systems analyst and worked in inventory control at Hyster Company for 40 years. He was a member of the US Army stationed in Hawaii during peace time, which led to his lifelong passion for traveling to anyplace warm with a beach. Chuck loved talking about and playing music, discovering new bands, and especially listening to live music. Chuck was a voracious reader, crossword puzzle master, Sudoku solver, and avid watcher of all sports, particularly cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He excelled at playing sports his entire life, and was accomplished at all that he attempted, including basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, swimming, and running. He was a great lover of all animals, adopted many, and was never happier than when he had a cat or dog on his lap or at his feet and a cocktail in his hand. Described by his many friends as a laid-back, great guy, a Renaissance man, a unique person and friend who was intelligent, interesting, funny, and one of a kind, Chuck will be thought of often and missed by many. Charles (aka Shappy, Chasbo, Chuckles, Chaz) was a much loved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and valued friend who left his mark on many. We will love and miss him forever. Per his wishes, Chuck was cremated, and a memorial celebration of his life will be held from 1pm-4pm, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Turtle Run Golf Club Pavilion, 332 E Liberty Lane, Danville, IL. Please wear casual attire. Memorial donations may be made in Chuck's name to your favorite animal shelter or the Humane Society. Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel is assisting the family in arrangements.
