Danville- Charles R. Bassett, 86, of Danville, IL passed away at 7:35 pm on June 21, 2016 at Presence USMC in Danville, IL. Charles was born on December 15, 1929 the son of Charles and Vera Morris Bassett in Overland, MO. He married Alta (Millie) Bailey on October 14, 1946 in Salem, IL. Survivors include his wife: "Millie" of Danville, IL, three sons: Larry (Diane) Bassett of Orland Park, IL, Dennis (Sally) Bassett of Zionsville, IN and James (Robyn) Bassett of Bourbonnais, IL, two daughters: Barbara (Bruce) Schofield of Danville, IL and Jeanne (Jason) Brown of Zionsville, IN, one brother: Louis (Barbara) Maxey of Decatur, IL, twelve grandchildren: Andrew Schofield of Dallas, TX, Travis (Blake) Schofield of Danville, CA, Robert (Melissa) Raguet-Schofield of Ft. Collins, CO, Darin (Margaret) Bassett of Indianapolis, IN, Scott (fiance Rachel) Bassett of Chicago, IL, Kevin Bassett of Kansas City, MO, Daniel (Rika) Bassett of Long Branch, WA, Tom Bassett of Boulder, CO, Brody Brown of Zionsville, IN, Lucy Brown of Zionsville, IN, Ashley (David) Lancer of New York, NY, and Laura Brown of Zionsville, IN, six great-grandchildren: Caleb, Vivian and Max Schofield of Danville, CA, William Raguet-Schofield of Ft Collins, CO, Olivia Lancer of New York, NY and Rosie Bassett of Long Branch, WA. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Morris Maxey and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Massengale Bassett. Charles served as the chief train dispatcher for over 43 years at various railroads in Illinois and Indiana. He started his career with the C&EI and finished with what is now known as CSX Railroad. He was a member of Danville First United Methodist Church, a Past Master Mason and received his 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge. Charles loved to coach basketball coaching the St. James Youth Group and Collett Grade School basketball teams, as well as a high school basketball teams in New Harmony, IN, Princeton, IN and Grayville, IL. He also taught guitar at Berkowitz Music Store in Danville, IL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday June 27, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL with Pastor Zach LeCrone officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday June 26, 2016 at the funeral home with Masonic Rites accorded at 4:00 PM.
