Danville - Charles Earl Morris, 77, died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1936, the son of Charles J. and Jeannette Gile Morris in Elkhorn, WI. He married Phyllis A. Kick on June 24, 1961. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his daughter Ann Morris Bruehler(Jim); his loving grandchildren, Katherine Jeannette Bruehler and John Morris Bruehler; his sisters Jean Anne Levihn and Susan Reichard; his sisters-in-law, Alice Morris and Carolyn (Richard) Clefisch; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Theodore and his parents. Chuck was a newspaperman his whole life, starting as a summer intern at the Rockford Morning Star, rising to executive editor of the Rockford Register-Star, and ending his career as the president and publisher of the Danville Commercial-News. He served in the Air Force as a Russian translator on St. Lawrence Island intercepting Russian communications. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1961 with a bachelors degree in journalism. A funeral mass will be held for Charles Morris on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Danville. Father Greg Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, February 28 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pauls Catholic Church, Danville Symphony Orchestra, or the Danville Public Library.
