Charles Miller

Charles W. Miller Sr, 88, of Danville, formerly of Oakwood, passed away at 10:25am on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Provena USMC in Danville. He was born on October 4, 1922, in Oakwood, the son of Ernest and Freda (Wainwright) Miller. Both are deceased. Charles is survived and will be missed by his former wife, Mary Louise (Wills), and their two sons, Charles W. (Joy) Miller Jr, of Danville , and Ronald L. (Patricia Sue) Miller of Georgetown, Several grandchildren, including, Tina Jordan, Mark Miller, Scott Miller, Tammy Rodgers, Candice Miller, Lisa Jordan, Michelle Miller and numerous great-grandchildren, one brother, Ernest Eugene 'Gene'(Gladys)Miller of Oakwood, one sister-in-law, Norma Sapp of Oakwood,and nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, one daughter, Sharon K. Hawk Clemmons, one sister, Louise Early, one brother, Ray Miller, and two infant daughters, Shirley Ann Miller, and Barbara Jean Miller also preceded Charles in death. Charles served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945, stationed overseas, during the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater, earning several medals that includes the good conduct medal, 3 bronze battle stars, and 2 overseas service bars. After the service, he was employed and retired from the City of Danville. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar mandolin, and singing old county and western music. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and cherished his time with his family. A celebration of life service for Charles W. Miller Sr. will begin at 10:00am on Monday, February 14, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A life celebration home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion St in Danville with burial being held at Oakwood Cemetery in Oakwood.Danville American Legion Post 210 has been asked to perform Military Honors.
