Charles "Charley" Edgar McKinney, 84, of Hillsboro died peacefully surrounded by family on June 25, 2021. Charley is originally from Veedersburg, graduated from Veedersburg High School, Class of 1955, and attended Purdue University and Indiana Business College. A respected member of his community throughout his life, he served as owner and operator of McKinney Farm Drainage and Excavating for over 50 years. Charley served in the Army Reserves; he was a staunch supporter of Fountain County Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and he served on the Fountain Central Scholarship Committee for several years. He was also a former member of Hillsboro Christian Church where he served as elder, deacon, trustee, and Sunday school teacher and was a current member of Sterling Christian Church.
Charley is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ruth McKinney, his uncles Earl Powell and Ralph Powell, his aunt Betty Powell St. John, and his much beloved great-granddaughter, Eleanora James Main. Charley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra Stockdale McKinney, sisters Theda Summers (Arnold) of Veedersburg, Charlotte McKinney Pierson (Ron) of Indianapolis, daughters Lynda McKinney Coffing (James) of Covington, Karen L. McKinney (Linda) of Indianapolis, granddaughters Sarah Coffing Main (Daniel) of Crawfordsville, Stephanie Coffing of Covington, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Charley will be forever cherished and remembered by his family and friends.
A private service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana, 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932, on Tuesday June 29, 2021, with Pastor Gary Johnson of Sterling Christian Church officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 288 of Veedersburg. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Sterling Christian Church, Marie Canine Cancer Center, or Southeast Fountain Community Foundation.
