Charles A. Lomax, 79, of Oakwood, passed away at 5:55am on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, IL. He was born on May 11, 1921, in Oakwood. On August 2, 1950, Charles married Ms. Laura Mae Myers in Terra Haute, Indiana. She survives along with their six children, Sue (Michael) Gibson of Ft. Mills, S.C, Janet (William) Devine of White Heath, IL, Chris (Alice) Lomax of Oakwood, Linda Herman of Rossville, Todd (Marilyn) Lomax of Middle River, MD, and Laurie (Henry) Smith of Mattoon, Il. Ten grandchildren, Allison, Christine, Jessica, Corey, Jake, Ivy, Aimee, Emily, Kathryn, and Jacqueline. Seven great-grandchildren, his brother, John (Margaret) Lomax of Albion, Il, his sister, Peggy Mosher of Oakwood, three nieces, Carolyn Hicks, Nancy Ernest, Penny Doehrman, and two nephews, Greg Lomax, Tom Hicks also survive Charles. His parents precede Charles in death. He was a graduate of Oakwood Township High School, Coyne Electric Collage in Chicago, and Danville Area Community College. Charles was Korean War Veteran while serving in the United States Army. After serving his country, he worked for the Illinois Power Company until his retirement. Charles was raised as a Master Mason in Free Will Lodge #872 in Oakwood in 1952, and served the Lodge as Worshipful Master in 1961. He later was affiliated with the Catlin Lodge #285. Charles was a 50-year member of the Masonic Fraternity and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, as well as a member of the Danville GAO Grotto. Charles also served as past president of the Vermilion County Audubon Society, lifetime member of Danville Post #728, Korean War Veteran Honor Guard from 1950-1952, and a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church.
