Charles Leroy "Sonny" Strange, age 84, of Danville, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 12:39 AM in his home.
Charles was born on July 24, 1938, to Kenneth & Goldie Strange of Danville. He is survived by his wife, the former Georgia Ann Bean, whom he married on June 3, 1961. He is survived by two sons, Charles E. (Jill Smith) Strange and Randy Allen Strange, both of Danville. Charles is also survived by two granddaughters, Ashley Bryant of Bushnell, Florida, and Aubrey (Brian) Anzures of Centennial, Colorado; two grandsons, Kyle (Jenny) Strange and Ryan Strange, both of Danville; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Carolyn Arnold of Catlin, and Becky (Greg) Osborne of Kingman, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin great-grandsons.
After graduating from Oakwood High School, Charles served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. As a young man, Charles enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime fisherman. Charles served God as an elder for the Lone Oak Church of Christ in Danville for many years and also served as their chairman. His love for the Lord was an integral part of his everyday life having served as a lay preacher on numerous occasions and was often seen visiting the sick and homebound to offer solace and communion. Charles officiated at numerous funerals for church members, family, and friends. He could rarely go out in public without meeting someone who knew him.
Charles worked full-time at Bohn Aluminum, later known as Heatcraft, Inc. When he retired from full-time work, Charles continued to work part-time for a while for Danville Paper Products, now DP Supply.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, Illinois 61834. Jim McMillen will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Charles memory to the Bismarck First Church of Christ or to a charity of the donors choice.
