Charles Lee Lay

Charles L. Lay, 70, of Champaign died Wednesday (October 23, 2013) at 9:55 a.m. at his home. He was born August 21, 1943 to Vern and Dorothy Lay in Austin, Texas. On August 18, 1963 he married Judith (Judy) Becker in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives. Chuck graduated from Hutchinson High in 1961, and is a 1966 graduate of Kansas State University. In 1969, he received his Master of Science degree from South Dakota State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska in 1972. Since 1988 he has been involved with independent agricultural contracting and plant genetics. Surviving children are Heather (Robert) Gudgel of Champaign; Amy (Darko) Stefanovic, Albuquerque, NM; Wade (Annette) Lay, Waxahachie, TX, four grandchildren, Maxwell, Anja, Mila, and Sabrina. He was preceded in death by his mother and a grandson, Wade Alan Lay, Jr. The family sincerely thanks the nurses, CNAs and others of Carle Hospice for the special and loving care they gave Chuck.
