Newport, Ind. - Charles E. "Sparky" Lewis, 90, of Newport, passed away at 6:30 a.m. EDT Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 29, 1922 in Parke County, Indiana, the son of the late Milton and Sara Jones Lewis. He married Josephine Hawkins on June 22, 1943 in Perrysville, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Lisa(Bret)Noggle of Georgetown, Illinois; two sons, Larry(Missy)Lewis of Newport, Indiana and Jerry Lewis of Covington, Indiana; seven grandchildren and five great grandchilden. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Lewis, Jr.; granddaughter, Tricia Kerr and brother, Robert Lewis. Sparky retired from Bohn Aluminum in January 1983. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army. Sparky was a lifetime member of the Newport American Legion Post 184. He attended Newport High School. Sparky enjoyed raising/riding horses, sports and watching his grandchilden participate in school activities. Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, September 13, 2012 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Oren A. Sutherlin; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana with military rites by the Newport American Legion Post 184; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the funeral home.
