Charles E. Porter 66 of Danville devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather and loyal friend to many, and loved the Lord with all his heart passed away at 2:45 A.M. Friday February 24, 2006 at Illiana Health Care System. He was born April 8, 1939 in Danville the son of Louie and Marie Montgomery Porter. Charles married Linda Hancock on September 24, 1960 in Danville she survives, also surviving are three daughters, Seresa Gardner of Danville, Nerissa Place of Danville and Nerinda (Gary) Vaughn of Indianapolis, nine grandchildren, Holly Jessica, Austin, Dalton, Preston, Hailee, Christian, Macale and Taylor, two sisters, Linda Turner of Danville and Barbara of Cottonwood, AZ,mother in-law Henrietta Hancock of Danville, several nieces, nephews and cousins and many dear friends who have been there for him especially during his many times of illness including Paul and Kathy Case, Joyce and Gary Coffing, Larry Phelps, Rosetta Kane, Douglas Swisher, uncle Carl Bartlett and many wonderful neighbors. He was preceded by his parents and one son Lanny Ray He was called Papsy not only by his grandkids but all the neighborhood kids that loved to sit on the porch and visit with him. Charles attended Danville High School and served in the Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959. He retired from the V.A. Hospital in 1989 after 33 years. He had worked part time during those years as a mechanic for awhile at Wangs service station and later Ribbes both on east main in Danville. He later owned and operated Superior Automotive, he loved working on cars and was the best mechanic there was in his time. I have Fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Charles was a member of the North side Nazarene Church where he served on the church board and sang in the church choir when he was able. His church family was a very big part of his life.
