Danville - Charles E. Long, 83, of Danville, IL passed away at 3:30 pm on Monday January 16, 2017 at Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, IL. He was born on December 9, 1933 the son of Perry Edwin and Louise (Gillespie) Long in St. Louis, MO. He married Beverly Tallman in Danville, IL on February 13, 1957. He lovingly took care of her during her long battle with Alzheimer's and remained by her side until she passed on March 19, 2010. Survivors include, two sons, Jeffery (Debbie) Long of Hoopeston, IL, and Matthew Long of Danville, IL, three daughters, Charlene (Charlie) Mornout of Bismarck, IL, Melanie (Richard) Wrensch of Danville, IL and Stephanie Sloan of Danville, IL, one brother, Harvey Long of St. Louis, MO and one sister Carole Duncan of Florissant, MO, ten grandchildren, Raymond (Jennifer) Wrensch, Zachary (Bethany) Wrensch, Elizabeth Garcia, Song (Yoevita) Wrensch, Tresa Wrensch, Justin (Sarah) Mornout, Erin (Alex) Dayvolt, Robert Sloan, Seth Sloan and Maci Long, and seven great grandchildren, Isaac Garcia, Genevieve Wrensch, Emmalyn and Hattie Dayvolt, Owen Mornout, Oliver and Olivia Wrensch. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beverly, and one sister Betty Vallo. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War era and attained the rank of SP5. He was a member of Second Church of Christ for over 60 years, the Mobile Home Association and served as one of Danville's first Aldermen. He was very active in the church and served as a Trustee, an Elder and was instrumental in the building of the new church on Voorhees Street. Charlie and Beverly owned and operated Long's Mobile Home Park on W. Williams for 53 years, greatly expanding the Park in 1972. He owned several other pieces of rental property which provided housing for many families in the Danville area. Charlie managed the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Danville for many years continuing to repair sewing machines up until just a few years ago. They bought Anker Florist in 1985 from the Zepplin family moving it from its original location on the corner of Seminary and Jackson to its current location on Hazel. The business is now owned and operated by his daughter Stephanie and grandson Robert. Charlie worked hard and loved God and instilled those values and beliefs in his children and grandchildren. He was proud of his family and he loved them very much. He was raised during hard times and had a special place in his heart for those in need and did what he could for them especially for the children. He will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Drew Mentzer will officiate. Private family burial following service at Danville National Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 6:00 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Second Church of Christ, Alzheimer's Association, or the National Kidney Foundation.
