Charles "Charlie" Allen Watts, 83, of Covington went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2024 at 2:28 am at the Bickford of Crawfordsville.

He was born December 11, 1940, in Covington, Indiana, the son of the late Henry Everett and Gertrude May Shumaker Watts. He married Cheryl Loleta Lyons on May 4, 1962 in Covington, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Cherie Lynette (J.B.) Daughenbaugh of Gibson City, Illinois; Charles Allen (Wendy) Watts II of Charlestown, Indiana and Cyle Andrew Watts of Brazil, Indiana; niece, Toni Kay Estrada (Louis); his bonus-children Holly (Brian) Peyton and Darrin Cronkhite; his grandchildren Dusty (Billie) Huber, Heather Huber, Brandon Cole, Justen (Michaela) Watts, Renee (Jake) Reece, Cole (Abbie) Watts, Nathan Daughenbaugh, Brice Peyton, and Briley "BP" Peyton; as well as 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Robert Levi Truex and Sandra Kay (Richard) Stewart; his grandson Robert Cole; and his niece Gina Stewart.

Charlie graduated from Covington High School with the Class of 1958 and later graduated from M.D.T.A. Drafting School in 1968. After graduation, Charlie started his working career at Olins. He finished his career as a draftsman at Carrier Global. He was a sports official for 40 years officiating baseball, softball, and basketball in addition to being a former baseball and softball coach. He was a past Covington Little League Board Member, W.V.B.R.L. Baseball League Chairman, softball Commissioner, and a red-vest volunteer at OSF Hospital for 13 years. He was a long-term Park Board member, held a position on the City Council, and former mayor of the City of Covington. Charlie surrendered his life to the Lord in 1997 and remained a devoted and faithful servant. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Bible Chapel in Danville for many years before attending Orchard Hill Church of Christ in the years before his passing.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm EST at Sunset Funeral Homes Covington Chapel, located at 420 3rd Street in Covington, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 1 pm EST at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest following the services at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the St. Judes Children Hospital.
