Charles O. Bash

White Heath – Charles O. Bash, 84, of White Heath, IL, passed away at 1:41 AM on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born December 23, 1939 in Champaign to Rupert D. and Dorothy I. (Downey) Bash.

He is survived by three children, Kathy (Dave) Sims of Dewey, IL, Kim (Charles) Stotts of Piedmont, MO, and Cody (Krystal) Bash of White Heath; thirteen grandchildren, April Thiele, Nathan, Noah, and Nazareth Stotts, Taylor and Holly Bush, Dustin Sims, Kayla Stevenson, Ethan Bash, Isaiah, Noah, and David Norfleet, and Lucas McCabe; fourteen great grandchildren, Charley and Chaney Thiele, Elerik, Ava, and Emma Stotts, Addison Zick, Grayson Fontaine, Lucy Dryden, Thyri and Rosie Stotts, Addison, Aden, Abram, and Ainsley Stevenson; and a great-great grandchild, Astoria Melvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ian Bush.

After graduating high school Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. Reserves for nearly a decade. He worked as a Union Carpenter at the University of Illinois from 1974-2000. Charles served in this position as a foreman for much of his time and was a master of his craft, gaining the admiration and respect of those that knew him. If he wasn’t working with wood at his job, he could often be found working on projects at home in his own workshop.

Aside from carpentry, Charles loved fishing, having breakfast at the Pancake House with friends and family, and grabbing the occasional chocolate malt from Dairy Queen.

A service to celebrate the life of Charles Bash will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home’s Mahomet Chapel, 1102 Churchill Rd., Mahomet, IL 61853. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Mahomet where military honors will be performed. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Friday, also at Sunset in Mahomet.
