Charles A Richards

Charles A. Richards, 88, of Danville passed away on February 11, 2019 at Danville VA Iliana Healthcare System.

He was born on the family farm in Indianola, IL on December 6, 1930 to James and Genevieve (Whitman) Richards. Charles married Mae Bell Jackson in 1951 and they spent 66 wonderful years together. She survives.

Charles will be deeply missed by his wife, Mae Bell Richards, son, Charles Allen Richards of Danville, sister, Daisy Crowell, grandchildren; Zack Currier, Kennedy Richards, Devin Richards and Charlie Richards, nephews; Ralph Hancock, Bobby Tintori, Charlie Tintori and special friend, Arnie Prestwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters; Norma Powell and Nellie Tintori.

Charles served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1948-1951. The day after he was discharged, he married Mae Bell and the following day they made the move from North Carolina to Illinois. He started out at Sears in the automotive department before becoming a brick and block layer for Hanson Masonry then later Leverenz Masonry, retiring in 1989. In his younger years Charlie enjoyed building and riding hot rods and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He especially enjoyed fishing with his two buddies Jim and Harley Zorns in the Florida Keys. Later in life he loved spending time with his grandchildren and tending to his yard.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the VA for their loving care to Charlie.

A celebration of Charles life will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, February 15, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.
