Charlene Sue (Nash) Buhoveckey, 74, of Grape Creek, Illinois, was ushered into Heaven Thursday, November 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Charlene was born in Danville, IL, on February 12, 1949, to Joe Vincent and Maxine Maurine (Morrison) Nash of Grape Creek, both of whom preceded her in death.

Charlene married John Richard Buhoveckey on August 8, 1970, at the Grape Creek Baptist Church and they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Surviving are her husband, John Richard Buhoveckey, and children Cassie (Eric) Rhodes of Danville, John (Jen) Buhoveckey of Grape Creek, Sarah (Tony) Cheuvront of Westville, and Courtney (Mark) Terrell of Grape Creek.

Charlene was Nana to Maddie (Tyler), Lainey, Jaidha (Fermin), Braden (Rexy), Jacycee (Andrew), Gavin, Keeley, Carsyn (Kendall), Caden (Savannah), Colton (Chloe), Rylie, Damon, Margo, Theo, and blessed with great-grandchildren Graham, Bentley, Van, Kayzley, Dallas, Lexington, and Tulsa. She is survived by her three younger brothers (an inside joke for Char), Dan (Anita) Nash, and Chuck Nash, both of Jacksonville, IL, and Steve (Kelly) Nash of Danville.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Char.

Char lived most of her life in Grape Creek. She attended Grape Creek Grade School, and was a graduate of Westville High School, Class of 1967. She attended Danville Area Community College and taught at Danville Head Start for several years. She obtained her Bachelors Degree and teaching certificate from Eastern Illinois University at the age of 41.

Charlene was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest started school. She then taught at Danvilles First Baptist Church school where her children attended. Later in her career, she taught at Judith Giacoma Grade School in Westville and was there until retirement.

Charlene was a member of the Grape Creek Baptist Church, where she attended services her entire life. She was active in the church choir, Sunday School, and Missionary Ladies as well as being involved with many other church activities. She loved cooking and baking, everything about holidays with family gatherings, especially Christmas, sewing, traveling, scrapbooking, singing, and Black Friday shopping trips annually since 1995 with all the girls and dad.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Grape Creek Baptist Church 13658 Grape Creek Road Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor David Leary will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following services and burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 2-5:00 PM on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Grape Creek Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Grape Creek Baptist Church, 13658 Grape Creek Rd., Danville, IL 61834.
