Catherine Jane Ribbe

Catherine Jane Ribbe, 92, formerly of Danville passed away at 11:05 am on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at St. Vincent Home in Quincy, Illinois. Catherine was born in Danville, Illinois on August 15, 1924, the daughter of Jules and Jennie (McDonald) Vandermeulen. She attended Danville schools and graduated from Danville High in 1942. Mom was a legal secretary for forty-five years until her retirement in 1989. On October 17, 1948, she married John F. Ribbe at First Presbyterian Church. They were married almost 60 years when John Passed in 2003. They were life-long members of the church and Catherine was also an Elder. Catherine was a kind and loving person who always looked after others. Mom loved her family dearly. She was a class act' who always had a smile on her face. Catherine especially loved to dance with her husband John. Mom enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Our parents love being members of the Danville Elks Club. For years, our family vacations were with the Group' which was an adventure every time we went. Survivors include her daughter Kay (Kenneth) Moneer of Quincy, Illinois. Her son John Ribbe; three grandchildren, Susan (Jessie) Ringley, Ashley Ribbe, Emily Ribbe; and one great grandchild, Charlie Ringley all of Rogersville, Tennessee. Catherine is also survived by a brother Darrell (Judy) Vandermeulen of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. Other survivors include three step-siblings; Davie (Virginia) Chapman, Richard (Ruth) Chapman, and Carol Mitchell. Catherine was preceded in death by a brother Raymond Vandermeulen. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on Friday December 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will Ann Schwartz. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery in Danville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1pm to 2pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Danville.
