It is with a deep and heavy heart that the family of Cary Kent Spicer "Spice" announces his passing on February 14, 2017 at Presence USMC, Danville, IL. due to medical complications. Cary was born in Danville on February 2, 1942 and raised in Westville, IL where he resides. He married Phyllis (Cooper) Spicer on March 30, 1988; she survives. He was an avid gun broker, love to read and watch westerns, hunt and trap shoot. Cary received countless awards for his prodigious rifle, shot gun and handgun competitions. He received abundant awards for his attributes of a Police Officer. Cary held Pride and Honor of serving and protecting not only his family, but the surrounding area communities as a police officer. His life journey consisted of graduating from Westville High School, and Remington Military School in Iowa. He worked for the Westville and Georgetown police departments, becoming Chief of Police in Tilton, IL, where he then became a police officer of the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department. Later his career led him to hold a position for many years in the V-MEG Department; he then returned and retired as a Vermilion County Sheriff's Deputy. Throughout his life journey he did investigative work as well. Cary completed his retirement as the owner YE Olde Trading Post, as a gun broker. Cary maintained memberships with the Westville Sportsman's Club, The National Rifle Association, Illinois Sherriff's Association and the Georgetown Friends Church. Our father, a special individual who gave life, nurture and nourished it leaves the following with detailed instructions to celebrate his mission which is now completed. Children: Lori Spicer Lawson (fianc Jeff Hoebing) Quincy, IL; Stephanie Spicer (Scott) Holycross, Danville, IL; and Mark Spicer, Longview, Texas; and stepson Keith (Teresa) Truelove, Georgetown, IL. Adopted daughter, Bobbie (Spicer) Sisney. Grandchildren: Justin Brooks (Sarah) Reese, Elkhorn, WI; Morgan Holycross, Danville, Michael Holycross, Danville; Tiffany (Adrian) Verhoeven, Tilton, IL; Sheldon Truelove, Georgetown, IL. Matt, Chelsea and Chad Truelove, Florida. Great grandchildren: Eliyah, Zechariah, Hezekiah and Janiyah Reese, Elkhorn, WI; Keona Numera and Noah Wells, Tilton, IL; Joey Truelove, Florida. Half Siblings: Tom Spicer, WI; Jack Spicer of Illinois; and sister Mary Spicer of Vermont. Sister in-law Sandra (Dave) Brown, Ridge Farm, IL. Cary's celebration mission includes his enormous magnitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and best friends Jerry Davis, William Cooper, Harold Nixon, Steve Doggett, Sr. and Ric Jackson. Cary is now reunited with his parents Merle A. and Zelia (Caccia) Spicer, brothers Jerry and Merle, Father and Mother in-law Floyd and Mildred Cooper; Step Son Kevin Truelove, son in-law Tech. Sgt. Alan C. Lawson USAF; and grandmother Mary (Tellier) Caccia who raised and loved him as her own from age 3. A celebration of Cary's life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville, with services to be directed by Pastor John Myers, Georgetown Friends Church; and Grandson Pastor Justin Brooks Reese, Christian Life Church, Delavan; WI. Visitation will be held 9:00am - 11:00am on Saturday prior to his service at the funeral home. He will be entombed at Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, IL. The family request in lieu of flowers donations to be made Westville Sportsman's Club, Vermilion County Animal Shelter, Georgetown Friends Church, and Faith in Action South in Westville IL.
