Carroll Dan Cope

Carroll Dan Cope of Danville died unexpectedly Wednesday, July, 29, 2009. He was born Jan. 19, 1940, in rural Georgetown, the son of Elihu and Lois (Stark) Cope. Carroll married Claudette Valangeon in 1973 in Danville. He is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Stacey of Flora, Ind., and Carol (Leroy) Johnson of Hazel Green, Ala.; two sons, Danny Ray (Debby) Cope of Danville and Edward (Debbie ) Cope of Lakewood, Wash.; one brother, Darrell (Mildred) Cope of Fairmount; three sisters, Eva Hubbard of Indianola, Inez (Edwin) Wheeler of Attica, Ind., and Donna (Jerry) Cooper of Tilton; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and he will be missed by his companion, Betty Houldridge of Danville. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Claudette Cope; his son, Robert Lee Cope; two brothers, Allen and Larry Cope; and his sister, Doris Berry. He enjoyed farm work, mushroom hunting, and reading western books. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, as well as, camping and fishing. Mr. Cope worked for Carl Daniel for years on his farm, as well as several other farmers in Illinois and Indiana. Carroll will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. A celebration of Carroll's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel. Pastor James Blue will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Indianola. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
