Carolyn Tovey

Carolyn Tovey, 89, of Westville, went to be with her Lord at 8:50 PM on April 18, 2015 at Pleasant Meadows Senior Living in Chrisman. Carolyn was born December 6, 1925, the daughter of Mary Nora Houston and Carl Houston. She graduated from Westville High School in 1943 and worked at the Danville VA Hospital. Working with wounded vets from both World Wars I and II, she saw and always remembered the terrible toll war takes on the minds and bodies of brave young men and women. She married Henry Tovey on June 26, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1973. After the death of her beloved husband, she worked as the librarian at the Westville Public Library, and later worked as executive secretary for Vermilion County Sherriff Walter Lumsargis, Westville school superintendent Wilson Day, and various positions, including Quaker Oats and the Green Thumb Sr. Workers project in the Westville schools. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Larry) Hepburn of Westville; sons Dane (Guadalupe Ayala) Tovey of San Diego and Mark of Effingham. She was devoted to her grandchildren Braedon, Wyatt, and Reed (Mark) Tovey, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Gabriel (Robin) and Abbey Spezia of Westville; great-grandchildren Brodie and Brooklyn Garrison and Charlee Spezia. Her great love was her family, and she enjoyed dancing and a wide variety of music, ranging from Guy Lombardo to the Rolling Stones. In her later years, she became a big fan of the Chicago Cubs. A celebration of Carolyns life will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Pastor Ray Silver officiating. Visitation will be held 4pm-8pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2015, and on Wednesday one hour prior to her service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, Danville. Memorial contributions in Carolyns name can be made to the Alzheimers Association (alz.org) and Bethel Baptist Church of Georgetown, Illinois.
