Carolyn Suzanne Courtney, a colorful, exuberant woman who enjoyed life to the fullest, died on Saturday, October 13, 2018. A native of Westville, she spent most of her adult life in the sunshine of Long Beach, CA. In the early 1960s, she was a receptionist in network television, and met stars like Monty Hall and John Wayne. Carolyn was born April 10, 1935, a daughter of Lucian J Courtney, Sr, and Kathryn Mikel Courtney. She is survived by her nephews, Chris (Kathryn) Courtney, and Tom (Robin) Courtney, and niece Lisa Courtney (Chuck Reifsteck), and their children. She called herself an "Auntie Mame" type of aunt, living to Mame's motto, "Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!" Also surviving are her cousins Geraldine and Carmen Reddish, and their family, who generously cared for her in her final days. Her sister-in-law Neicy Courtney Hreha, also survives, as well as several close, life-long friends and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Lucian J "Lu" Courtney, Jr. Entombment Rites of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Resurrection Cemetery, 818 Wendt Street Danville, IL with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
