Carolyn Kay Haney (Rumple), 81, of Westville, Illinois went to be with our Lord on Monday, October 5, 2020 in Richton Park, Illinois. She was born on June 25, 1939 in Dana, Indiana, the daughter of the late Virgil Olen (Abe) and Martha Elizabeth Rumple.
She was preceded in death by her sister Glenna Rumple Marlatt Niswander, two infant siblings Shirley and Jerry, nephew Mark Marlatt, and her beloved rescue dog Maggie.
Surviving are her children Steven (Barb Johnson) Pataki, Teri (Nate) Rakausky, her granddaughter Tristen Rakausky, and her step kids Tina Brown, John Haney Jr., and Timothy Haney. Also surviving are her siblings Laura (late Dean) Baird, Ernest (Jean) Rumple, and Russell (Nancy) Rumple as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Carolyn grew up on a farm and she graduated from Ridge Farm High School in 1957 and shortly after moved to Westville. She worked at GE/Valmont for 28 years until they closed their doors. Soon after, she had the opportunity to go to college and despite not being in school for over 30 years and barely knowing what a computer was, she attended DACC for computer programming and made straight As. She later went on to work for Meisei in Danville, IL for 7 years until she retired. Carolyn was an avid reader of mystery books and she enjoyed putting together puzzles. In her 50s she discovered a love of video games and would often spend late night hours beating various games. Carolyn was quick witted and had a big heart. She was never one to turn down anyone in need whether it be a meal, someone to talk to, or a safe place to stay. She will be truly missed by everyone she touched.
A celebration of life will be held at her family church, Community of Christ, 201 Oak St. Georgetown, IL on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
