Carolyn Mae Herbert

Carolyn Mae Herbert, 85, of Newport, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Indiana.

She was born October 16, 1939, in Brazil, Indiana, daughter of the late Warren and Normamae (Clossin) Reffett.

Carolyn married Lawrence Leon Herbert Sr. in November 1970 in Rockville, Indiana, and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children: Terri Rico, Timala Hack, Andrew McClure, John Herbert and Lawrence Herbert Jr; her sister: Jackie Balding; her brother: Leroy Reffett; along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents and her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by a sister: Cherry Ilene; a granddaughter: Jasmine Wiltbank and a grandson: Eric Wiltbank.

Carolyn worked various jobs over the years, but her favorite by far was being at home raising her children. She loved crocheting, plants, and could often be found working out in her garden tending to her flowers. In later years, Carolyn enjoyed going dancing at the Wallace 341 Café, and going to eat at her favorite restaurant, Yoder’s Amish Kitchen. Most of all, Carolyn loved spending time with her friends and family.

A Celebration of Life for Caroyln will be at 12PM EST on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center’s DeVerter Chapel 215 N. Division Street Cayuga, Indiana 47928. Pastor Ramona Trover will officiate. Burial will follow at Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10AM - 12PM EST on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
