Carolyn Grant

Carolyn Grant, 76, of Danville passed away at 3:00 AM on June 4, 2024 at Goldwater Care in Danville, IL.

Carolyn was born on December 28, 1947 in Sikeston, MO the daughter of John Marvin and Lavada Vivian (Sammons) Hopper. She and her husband, Dr. Dallas Grant, were married on June 3, 1967 in Mayfield, KY recently celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Dallas Grant of Danville, IL, her children, Renee (Brent) Schulte of Des Moines, IA, Angela (Kent) Sulzberger of Morton, IL, Brian Grant of Eden Prairie, MN and Kevin (Sandy) Grant of Harrisburg, PA. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, Cecilia, Savanna, Alayna, Rachel, Kevin, Jr, and Logan and her siblings, Margaret Stephens, Garry Hopper, Chester Hopper and twin sister Marilyn Farmer.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, John Hopper, Patsy Slayden, Travis Hopper and Carles Hopper.

Carolyn grew up the daughter of a sharecropper, working in the fields of tobacco and cotton. While in high school, she got up at 4:00 AM to milk cows. Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and English from Murray State University in Kentucky and Masters Degrees from MSU, Eastern and Illinois State Universities. She completed all but a PhD dissertation from Illinois State University.

Carolyn was a member of the Muncie Baptist Church and worked for Danville School District 118 where she served in a variety of roles and retired as the Technology Training Coordinator for the district. While working in her various technology roles for District 118, she attended national computer conferences across the country. Carolyn enjoyed spending her free time reading, especially her Bible, taking care of her flowers, listening to music on WBGL Radio and in her younger years was an exceptional seamstress and operated her own draperies business.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois, 61834. Brent Schulte will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 PM on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested in Carolyns memory to Lewy Body Dementia Association.
