Carol Popadines

Carol Lynn Popadines, 54, of Danville passed this life Tuesday, September 4th at 10:13 p.m. at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center surrounded by her family. Carol Lynn was born May 23rd, 1953 the first daughter of George and Norma Popadines. Carol was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth and against overwhelming odds thrived in life, even maintaining a position for a number of years at Cross Point and attended classes at Washington and Douglas schools. Carol took pride in watching after her younger siblings and valued her family above all else. Becoming Aunt Carol was a joyous moment in her life and she loved taking part in raising her niece and nephews. In her younger years, Carol enjoyed challenging people to a game on the Nintendo, cheering for the Chicago Cubs and then she defected to the St. Louis Cardinals, collecting catalogs and ballpoint pens, working puzzle books, eating ice cream and drinking Diet Mountain Dew. Later in life, she enjoyed stuffed animals, passing out kisses to staff at her nursing home, and coloring. She was loved for her spunky attitude, zest for life, and her stubborn disposition. She touched our lives and we are grateful for the light she brought to our hearts. Survivors include: her parents; one brother, Paul (Sue) Popadines of Oakwood; one sister, Beth (Robin) Miller of Danville; one niece Tabitha Miller of Charleston; two nephews, Keith Pickering of Clive, Iowa and Cameran Miller of Danville; and three great nephews, Josh (Shorty) Downing of Poland, Indiana, Shannon Downing of Rossville, Illinois, and Warren Pickering of Clive, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, one nephew, Keith Downing, and her beloved dog, Carebear. A Celebration of Carols Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion ST. Danville, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Carol will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Parks Mausoleum. Memorial may be sent in Carols name to Crosspoint Human Services. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com
