Carol (Grimes) Lopez, 72, of Danville, passed away at 5:41am, Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Danville Care Nursing Home, Danville. She was born on July 1, 1937, in Chicago to Charles Grimes and Elsie (Boller) Grimes. She was raised by Elsie and Herbert Dixon, Sr. Carol had worked at YWCA and other child care facilities in Danville. She resided at the Wolford before residing at Danville Care. She enjoyed country music, going on trips with her friends at the Wolford & walking. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren and family. She attended Cayuga & Kingman grade schools and furthered her education at Danville Area Community College and then Eastern Illinois University. Survivors include: her sons, James Dean Grimes of Danville & Jose Lopez of Chicago, IL; her daughters, Mary Kay Hamilton of Danville, Linda Foxx, & Shirley Bailey; her twelve grandchildren; her brothers, Herbert Buddy Dixon Jr of Danville, John Shephard of Rockville, IN, & Richard Overpeck of Rockville, IN; and her sisters, Emily Davis of Flagstaff, AZ, Elsie Haga of Alvin, IL, & Alice Burk of Brazil, IN. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Elsie Dixon; her stepfather, Herbert Dixon; her son, Carl Shephard; her sisters, Florence Brookshier, Lydia Dixon, & Clara Dixon; and her brother, Henry Dixon. A Requiem Mass to honor Carol will be held at 5:00pm, Wednesday, July 8th, 2009, at the Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal, 308 N Vermilion St, Danville. A celebration of Carols life will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E West St, Georgetown. Father Geoffrey Scanlan will officiate. Burial will be at Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-2pm prior to the service.
