Carol J. Downs

Dana, Ind. - Carol J. Downs, 78, of Dana, passed away at 2:29 p.m. EDT Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Carol was born on March 17, 1939 in Edgar County, Illinois the daughter of the late Bertha (Southard) Debolt Hawkins and Wallace Debolt.

She married Hubert Downs on July 27, 1955 in Newport, Indiana. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Ricky (Rexi) Downs and Jerry (Valerie) Downs both of Dana, Indiana; three grandchildren, Michael (Tiffany) Downs; Brandon Downs and Taylor Downs; two great grandchildren, Tessa and Katie Downs; one brother, Larry (Karen) Debolt of Nashville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Viola (Neal) Hendrix of Dana, Indiana; brother-in-law, Jerry Hill of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her stepfather, Raymond Hawkins; one sister, Donna Hill and one brother, Jack Debolt.

Carol was a devoted farmers wife. She enjoyed playing the piano, accordion, cooking, trap shooting and watching Indiana University Basketball. Carol was very social and enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family.

Funeral services: 1 p.m. EDT Monday, June 26, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Marvin Miller; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 11 a.m. EDT Monday, June 26, 2017 until time of services.
