Carol Hampton Ball Hitt Salczynski, 98, of Brownsburg, IN, passed away peacefully July 10, 2025 surrounded by her family.

She was born June 5, 1927 in the The Plains, VA, the daughter of St. Elmo and Grace (Creel) Ball. She married Morris A. Hitt on June 29, 1946 in the The Plains, VA. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1974. She then married Walter G. Salczynski on October 29, 1977 in Danville, IL. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2003.

Carol thoroughly loved being a full-time wife and mother and took pride in caring for and supporting her family. Once the kids were grown, she worked for the United Way of Danville, IL for a few years.

Carol had a variety of hobbies that she cherished. She found joy in bowling, playing golf and bridge, cooking, traveling, attending musicals, watching all kinds of sports, and loved hosting the annual Superbowl party with friends.

Her greatest passion was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by five children, Beverly Eversole of Argyle, TX, Steven (Brenda) Hitt of McKinney, TX, Gary (Sue) Hitt of Sioux Falls, SD; Wayne Hitt of Brownsburg, IN, Pamela (Fritz) Gerbsch of Brownsburg, IN; Grandchildren, Melissa (Geff) Wilson, Christine (Jeff) Bennett, Teresa (Kevin) Edgar, Ben (Christine) Flynn, Jeremy (Jennifer) Hitt, Elliot (Erin) Hitt, Jake Hitt, Dylon Hitt, Lucas Gerbsch; Great-grandchildren, Maegan (Bernard) Dillard, Madison (Zach) Weaver, Grace Edgar, Ben Edgar, Niko Flynn, Olive Flynn, Braedon Hitt, Dennis Hitt, Lily Hitt, George Hitt, Clayton Bennett, Natalie Bennett and Brooke Bennett; Great-great-grandchildren, Maeve Weaver, Margot Weaver, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings, Elmo Ball Jr, Stuart Ball, Ralph Ball, Douglas Ball, Helen Balcom, Josephine Grant, Jeanne Contarino, Marie Ball; son-in-law Harry Eversole, daughter-in-law Barbara Hitt.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Pastor Dave Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Noon on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Danville National Cemetery in Danville, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to Make-A-Wish Foundation.
