Carol Hicks

Carol S. Hicks, 85, of Ormond Beach, FL, formerly from Danville, IL, after declining health since June, made her transition on 12/22/2024 in the arms of her daughter. 

She is survived by her daughter Vikki Hicks (Greg Pallaske), special cousins David (Karen) Stimac, Troy (Mandy) Stimac, Travis Stimac, & Molly Stimac, sister-in-law Pat Holycross, special nieces Kate Sprouls, Joyce Strong & Brianna Shutes (Lee) and special nephew Seth Board (Dreux). 

She was preceded in death by her parents, George & Ethyle Holycross, and all of her siblings Emma Reddy, Mary Jane Sprouls, Beulah Strong, Marguerite Juvinall, Georgiann Board, and Thomas Holycross. 

Carol retired from the VA after 30+ years on her 70th birthday in 2009 and celebrated with a big party with family and friends. She was a member of the Bowman Avenue United Methodist Church. She loved to sit by the ocean, read, play Shanghai rummy and play bunco. She loved animals and adored all her grand-furbabies and liked nothing more than to have them on her lap. She also loved to travel and enjoyed Hawaii, Napa Valley, New Orleans, Mexico, Canada, Europe especially Italy, Australia, and cruising through the Carribean. She was a Cub fan and a Parrothead and attended many Cub games and Jimmy Buffet concerts.

A Celebration of Life for Carol will take place at 10AM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion Street Danville, Illinois. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4PM-6PM on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the funeral home in Danville, and one hour prior to service on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
