Carmen Lee Williams Sanders

Carmen Lee Williams Sanders 10/09/1925-12/19/2009 Carmen Sanders was born October 9, 1925 in Humrick, Illinois, the daughter of the late Henry and Gladys (Collier) Williams and married Jack Sanders. Surviving is one son, John Sanders and his wife Connie; two grandsons, Charles Sanders and Aaron OBryant; two granddaughters, Maria Thompson Knauer, Crystal Paauwe; three great granddaughters, Anne Thompson, Skylor OBryant, Morgan OBryant; four great grandsons, Jonathan OBryant, Avery Thompson, Calab Paauwe, Andrew Paauwe; one sister Norma Wieburg. Carmen was preceded by one daughter, Pamela OBryant and one brother Dilbert Williams. Carmen attended school in Georgetown Illinois. She attended Danville Jr. College where she was a member of the Phi Rho Pi National Honorary Society of Junior College. Carmen received her degree in Education from the University of Illinois where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honorary Society. Carmen taught school at Homer Illinois and Pine Crest School in Georgetown Illinois. Carmen was a Right to Read Director which was sponsored by the State Office of Education and Federal Office of Education and served as Project Consultant for Talents Unlimited and Early Prevention of School Failure. Carmen assisted in serving other school districts throughout the United States. Among her many acknowledgements, while teaching at Georgetown she was named Teacher of the Year and received the Golden Ruler Award from the Regional Office of Education, Vermilion County Illinois. Carmen was a charter member of Delta Beta Society and as a retired teacher she always said she never had a child in her room she didnt love and never had a bad child. Carmen loved her hometown and was proud to be selected to serve as its Grand Marshall. And she loved the residents of Georgetown; they are all my kids as she taught school there for thirty one years. Carmen was a member of Georgetown Friend Church; her greatest joy was her son, daughter, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Carmen passed away in Provena Hospital, Danville Illinois after a short illness. Remembering her spirit of giving, celebrating the difference she made in the lives of many. Carmen Lee Sanders A celebration of life funeral for Carmen will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday December 23, 2009 at Sunsets Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown. Visitation for family and friends will be two hours prior to the service on Wednesday. Place of rest will be in Forest Park Cemetery in Georgetown.
